Challenge: Write a message that the user will read immediately upon opening the app. What do they need to know? What steps (if any) do they need to take to recover their content? What if they can't recover the content?
My approach
Keeping the user's emotions in mind is integral when providing an error message. No one likes to encounter a friction point. A user in this situation might feel frustrated, worried, and discouraged. They are hoping that the app will reopen with their saved work.
Users will want to know:
What happened?
Why did it happen?
What is the solution?
The most appropriate tone is simple, solution-oriented, and apologetic. I also chose to create a button that gives the user the option of contacting support so that they can get answers.
My recommendation would be to state what the problem was but without a specific company, that would be difficult to surmise.
With that being said, I created a few options:
Version 1:
We’re sorry! Something went wrong and we couldn’t save your last comment. Do you want to jump back in?
Jump back in  | Contact us
Version 2:
Oh, no. Something went wrong. Let’s pick up where you left off. Do you want to jump back in?
Jump back in | No thanks
Version 3:
We’re sorry! It seems like something went wrong on our end. We were able to save your latest update. Do you want to jump back in?
